Motorway Service Area at J52

The decision made last year by North Yorkshire Council Planning to grant permission for the Motorway Service Area (MSA) at J52 was quashed by the High Court. Roadchef have now re-submitted a slightly altered application for these services (Ref.19/00473/FULL) and so anyone with any comments about the MSA will need to resubmit these. Full details of these plans can be found on the North Yorkshire Council website.

Catterick Parish Council are holding a public meeting on Tuesday 5th May 2026 at 7pm in the Booth Hall to discuss this re-application and the implications these services may have on Catterick Village such as traffic levels, noise, lighting, environmental impact, local employment and economic activity and the need for additional services in this location. Roadchef will be invited to attend the meeting.

All are welcome to attend. If any member of the public wishes to speak at the meeting, please contact the clerk. Time is limited to 3 minutes per speaker.
The council will consider the views of the public before submitting their response.

North Yorkshire Council’s Campaign

Pension Credit

Updated figures from DWP reflect that £22million Pension Credit is still eligible and not claimed across North

Yorkshire. Yes - £22,000,000!

North Yorkshire Council are now live with the pension credit campaign, if customers ring the Customer Service

number and say "Pension Credit" they will get through to an advisor who will transfer the call to the appropriate

Income Maximisation team, and they will check for eligibility and assist with the claim. The customer service

number is 0300 131 2131.

The team will also be able to look into other benefits residents are entitled to and might not be receiving.

Let’s get some of that £22million into our North Yorkshire residents’ pockets.

2026 garden waste service

Residents can now pay for their licence for the 2026 garden waste collection service.

A licence costs £52 for collections between March and early December. The licence covers one 240-litre wheelie bin to be emptied fortnightly. Anyone who wants to have more than one bin emptied will need to pay for a licence for each additional bin. Residents can also pay for a licence at any time throughout the season but are encouraged to do so before the start of the service in March as the cost remains the same.

Once paid, a licence pack should arrive within 14 days.

Sandbags

North Yorkshire Council is simplifying its approach to supporting communities who need access to sandbags during a flood incident.

From the beginning of October 2024 if a member of public requires access to sandbags they should Google Sandbags North Yorkshire.  If there is an immediate need for sandbags then they can call 0300 131 2 131 and either say Sandbag when prompted or follow the instructions.
